KRC Power Steering Pump

Installation Instructions

  1. Mount pump to the front of the driver's side head using the KRC bracket included with the kit. If you are making your own bracket, the pump bolt pattern is 72mm center to center. It is best to mount pump with the -6 fitting pointing up.
  2. Use spacers provided with the bracket kit to space bracket away from engine for proper belt alignment. Place spacers between engine and mounting bracket. Pump is to be attached directly to the mounting bracket.
  3. Tighten upper pivot bolt hand tight first (The one that has a support boss made into the rear cover) then adjust pump for proper tension. Snug up lower bolt until it holds the belt tension only, then torque both bolts to 21 ft lb.
  4. Connect all hoses.
  • The stiffer hose (size -6) with fittings on both ends is the high pressure line and should be connected from the blue fitting on the KRC pump and the rack control valve fitting marked "P".
  • The thicker (size -10) hose is to be connected from the red fitting on the KRC pump to the fitting located at the bottom of the reservoir.
  • The final hose (size -6) is connected from the fitting located on the side of the reservoir to the rack control valve fitting marked "T". This hose is supplied with one end bare to facilitate the shortening of the hose.

Tips to extend your pumps life

  • Pulley torque is 46 ft.lb.
  • Fluid level must be two or more inches higher than top of pump.
  • When assembling new hoses clean them with a rifle bore brush, then flush them out with hot water and air dry before use. Most problems with power steering systems are due to contamination from new hoses or other steering components which in turn damage the pump. Always place caps on pumps, steering gears and hoses when system is open to the air.
  • Never start your engine without fluid in the reservoir tank. One minute without fluid can damage the pump.
  • Route all hoses and reservoir tanks away from headers to keep from adding heat to the system and burning the fluid.
  • Do not install any filters or coolers on the -10 side of the reservoir. Install them on the return side if they are needed.
